Local housing

Velva residents are justifably proud of their attractive little town, excellent school and strong business community. The quality of life in our quaint village also appeals to others, and now, community leaders are faced with a problem: where to put everyone!

Never ones to the sit on their hands, local officials went to work, and in a few short years, put together the purchase, plans and funding for a brand new residential development. Beautifully situated in the southwestern corner of town, just two blocks from the school, the Sunset Addition is now complete and lots are on sale. The neighborhood is also next door to the swimming pool and softball fields, and a nearby walking bridge takes you across the Souris River to our gorgeous 23-acre park and the high school sports complex. To see the Sunset Addition, go to economic development.

There are also numerous apartments and rental homes available in the city, including three rental housing buildings targeted at -- but not limited to -- elderly, low income and families. The complexes feature 28 one- and two-bedroom units and fall under Equal Opportunity Housing. For more information, call 701.338.2351 after 6 p.m.

We also welcome more "experienced" newcomers to Velva. Valley View Manor, adjacent to the Souris Valley Care Center, is another source of local pride. Completed less than three years ago, this independent living facility is absolutely beautiful, inside and out, and offers apartment living with a variety of services, including vehicle parking, laundry, cooking, barber/beauty shop, transportation, housekeeping and social activities. There are 16 contemporary apartments at Valley View and you can find out more by calling 701.338.2727.
