It just takes once.
Once you've roamed our sun-spattered sidewalks ...
Once you've lost yourself in our vast city park ...
Once you've seen the fresh, young faces at our award-winning school ...
Once you've met our friendly residents and shopkeepers ...
Once you've been here for five minutes, you'll know you're home at last.

Our thriving community of 1,000 souls is a place where kids still sell lemonade on street corners. The local swimming pool and nearby lakes provide relief from hot, summer days. The meandering riverbed of the Souris River lends itself to pristine snowmobiling in the winter as it weaves through our gentle valley. Our new grass greens executive golf course offers a breathtaking view of our beautiful city.

We're proud that Velva is more than surviving, it's thriving! By supporting economic growth, we have maintained a quality of life that other towns aspire to attain. And now, Velva is rapidly become an energy center for the future. Eighteen new wind turbines overlooking our city make use of North Dakota's abundant breezes, while construction is underway on what will be America's largest biodiesel plant, located right in our industrial park. The new ADM plant is being built adjacent to the ADM canola plant and will be capable of producing 85 million gallons of biodiesel annually. Because we encourage exciting, progressive businesses to share in our good fortune, Velva is "on the grow." Young families inquire about housing opportunities on a regular basis, attracted by our school's stellar reputation and our community's safe, warm environment. These welcome newcomers move to Velva seeking a calm harbor in a hectic world, and many of them commute to nearby Minot for work while leaving their children in our care. That means lots are going fast in the Sunset First Addition, a new residential development just two blocks from the school.

There are many wonderful things to discover about Velva, and you can explore our virtual community right here. Star City Online will tell you more about our excellent school system, independent local businesses and community-based support services. Feel free to email city hall for more information. (You can also find hundreds of local email addresses on the Star City E-List.) Enjoy!
